"إن للرب دعوى على سكان الأرض. إذ ليس في الأرض حق ولا رحمة. ولا معرفة الله. بل قد فاضت اللعنة والكذب، والقتل والسرقة والزنى. والدماء تلامس الدماء. لذلك تنوح الأرض" (من نبؤة هوشع 4: 1-3). ينطبق الكثير من هذا الكلام مع الأسف على أيامنا وزمننا الحاضر. والكل يحمل مسؤولية تنقية هذا الزمن والعودة به إلى الاستقامة والعدل والبر.
أيها الإخوة والأبناء الأعزاء، إننا قريبون منكم ومعكم نعيش العاصفة التي تمر بكم. وإنها لزائلة، إن شاء الله. نحن معكم في الشدة ولكم نقول: تسلحوا بالصبر والإيمان. قال صاحب المزامير: "رؤساء طاردوني بلا سب ولم يفزع قلبي إلا من كلمتك" (مزمور 118). وقال أيضا: "أنظر يا رب إلى بؤسي وأنقذني. فإني لم أنس شريعتك. دافع عن قضيتي وافتدني وبحسب قولك أحيني" (مزمور 119: 153-154).
كتب لنا أن نولد وأن يعمل فينا الموت ونحن تحت وطأة الاحتلال. ومن حقنا ومن واجبنا أن نتحرر من هذه الوطأة. لأنه من حق كل إنسان ومن واجبه أن يعمل كل ما بوسعه لينال هذه الحرية. ويجب أن تدرك الأسرة الدولية أن الفلسطيني إنسان مثل كل إنسان، ومثل كل إنسان يستحق أن يستعيد كرامته وحريته في أرضه.
القتل حرام وكل أنواع العنف حرام. وكل حرب تشوه وجه الله في الإنسان وروحه حرام. ولكن القاتل هو الدافع إلى القتل. وهو من يفتح أبواب الموت ويزج الناس فيها. وفاتح أبواب الموت في أرضنا المقدسة هو الاحتلال. ولذلك نقول: كفى الشعب الفلسطيني ما عاناه، وآن الأوان لوضع حد لمأساته.
وللشعب الإسرائيلي نقول: أنتم أيضا تستحقون الأمن والسلام. ولكم نريد الأمن والسلام. وفي كل واحد منكم نرى كرامة هي من كرامة الله، وهي هبة الله لكل إنسان، لليهودي والفلسطيني على السواء. وإن مفتاح القتل هو بيدكم وبيد الحكومة التي تختارونها. فلها أن تفتح أبواب الموت ولها أن تغلقها. بيدها أن تمتعكم بالأمن والسلام وبيدها أن تحرمكم ذلك. المقتتلون اليوم والمرسلون إلى الموت اليوم، إسرائيليين وفلسطينيين، يحق لهم أن يتمتعوا بالحياة والأمن. ولذلك لا بد من وضع حد للاحتلال الجاثم على صدور الفلسطينيين منذ عشرات السنين حارما إياهم كرامتهم وحريتهم. وقد وضعت هيئة الأمم قواعد لإرساء السلام ويكفي تطبيقها.
مع إخوتنا بطاركة المدينة المقدسة ورؤساء الكنائس فيها نقول كفى دماء وكفى اقتتالا. أغلقوا الأبواب. أغلقوا أبواب الموت والكراهية والرعب. ضعوا حدا لإراقة الدماء التي تستدعي دماء جديدة. وكلها تصرح أمام الله وفي وجه كل ضمير إنساني. أعيدوا الأرض إلى أصحابها. واسمحوا للقلوب أن تصفو، ليعود كل إنسان إلى إنسانيته، وليستعيد الفلسطيني والإسرائيلي على السواء الكرامة التي منحه إياها الله.

Le prophète Osée dit: “Dieu est en procès avec les habitants du pays: il n’y a ni sincérité ni amour, ni connaissance de Dieu dans les pays, mais parjure et mensonge, assassinat et vol, adultère et violence, meurtre sur meurtre. Aussi tout le pays est en deuil” (Osée 4,1-3). Ces paroles s’appliquent malheureusement, en partie au moins, à nos jours et à notre temps présent. Et tous, nous portons la responsabilité de purifier notre temps et de retourner à la droiture, à la justice et au bien.
Frères et soeurs, nous sommes proches de vous et avec vous nous vivons l’orage qui a éclaté en ces jours. Avec la volonté de Dieu, il passera. Nous sommes avec vous en ces temps difficiles et nous vous disons: armez-vous de la patience et de la foi. Avec le psalmiste nous disons: “Des princes me persécutent sans raison; c’est ta parole que redoute mon coeur” (118,161). Et aussi: “Seigneur, vois ma misère, délivre-moi, car je n’oublie pas ta loi. Plaide ma cause, défends-moi, en ta promesse vivifie-moi” (118, 153-154).
Notre destin est de naître sous l’occupation et d’y être continuellement exposé à la mort. Toute personne humaine a le droit et le devoir de faire tout son possible afin d’obtenir sa liberté. La communauté internationale doit finalement entendre et comprendre que le Palestinien est un être humain comme tout être humain, et comme tout être humain il a droit à retrouver sa dignité et sa liberté sur sa terre.
Tuer est un mal et toute violence est un mal. Et toute guerre qui déforme le visage de Dieu dans l’homme est un mal. Mais le meurtrier est celui qui pousse au meurtre. C’est celui qui ouvre les portes de la mort et qui y fait entrer les gens. Et celui qui ouvre les portes de la mort dans notre Terre Sainte est l’occupation militaire. C’est pourquoi nous disons: c’est assez ce que le peuple palestinien a enduré jusqu’aujourd’hui; il est grand temps de mettre fin à sa tragédie.
Au peuple israélien nous disons: vous aussi vous méritez la sécurité et la paix. Pour vous nous désirons la sécurité et la paix. En chacun et chacune de vous nous voyons la dignité qui provient de la dignité de Dieu, et qui est un don pour tout être humain, le juif et le Palestinien pareillement. La clef de la mort ou de la paix est en votre main et dans les mains du gouvernement que vous vous choisissez. C’est lui qui peut ouvrir les portes de la mort et qui peut les refermer. C’est lui qui peut vous donner la sécurité et la paix, et qui peut vous en priver. Ceux qui se battent aujourd’hui et sont envoyés à la mort, israéliens et palestiniens, ont le droit de vivre et de jouir de la sécurité. Pour cela, il est dans les mains de votre gouvernement de mettre fin à l’occupation qui pèse sur les Palestiniens depuis des dizaines d’années, les privant de leur dignité et de leur liberté. Les Nations Unies ont pris des décisions pour jeter les bases de la paix, il suffirait de les appliquer.
Avec nos frères, les Patriarches de la ville sainte et les chefs des Eglises en elle, nous disons: assez de sang et de lutte. Fermez les portes. Fermez les portes de la mort, de la haine et de la terreur. Mettez fin à l’effusion du sang qui réclame une autre effusion de sang. Le sang de toutes les victimes crie devant Dieu et devant toute conscience humaine. Redonnez la terre occupée à ses propriétaires, permettant ainsi aux coeurs de retrouver leur sérénité, et à toute personne humaine de retrouver son humanité, et au palestinien comme à l’Israélien de retrouver également la dignité que Dieu leur a donnée.

Letter of H.B. Mons. Michel Sabbah to the Faithful
To our beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord!
The prophet Hosea says: “Yahweh indicts the inhabitants of the country: there is no fidelity, no tenderness, no knowledge of God in the country, only perjury and lies, slaughter, theft, adultery and violence, murder after murder. This is why the country is in mourning, and all who live in it pine away” (Hosea 4, 1-3). These words may be applied, at least partially, to our days. And we all carry the responsibility to purify our time and return to rectitude, justice and goodness.
Brothers and sisters: We are close to you. Together with you we experience the storm happen during these days. With God´s help this crisis will pass. We are with you in these difficult times. We would like to encourage you: Love each other with patience and faith. With the psalmist we say: “Princes persecute me without a cause. But my heart stands in awe of Your word” (Ps 118, 161), and further: “Consider my affliction and deliver me, for I do not forget Your law. Plead my cause and redeem me; revive me according to Your word (118, 153-154).
Our destination is to be born under occupation and be exposed constantly to death. Every human person has the right and the duty to do all possible to him in order to obtain his own liberty. The international community finally has to come to understand that the Palestinian is a human being like all the others and has the right, as every human being, to reconquer his proper dignity and liberty in his own country.
Killing is evil. All violence is evil. All war disfigure the countenance of God, and is therefore
evil. Only the murderer strives for murder. He opens the gates of death and makes the person enter. In our Holy Land the element that opens the gates to death is the military occupation. Therefore we say: the suffering of the Palestinian people until today is enough. It´s time to end its tragedy.
To the Israeli people we say: you merit also security and peace. We wish you security and peace. In everybody and in everyone of you we see the dignity which derives from that of God and which is a gift to every human person being Palestinian or Hebrew. The key of death or peace is in your hands and in that of the government you have elected. It is the government that can open or close the gates of death. It is the government that can give you peace or take it away from you. Those who today fight eachother and are thrown into the abyss of death have the right to live and enjoy security. Therfore, it depends on your government to put an end to all occupation that has been pressing upon the Palestinians during decades from this part, depriving them from their dignity and liberty. The United Nations have formulated regulations as base of peace. It would be sufficient to implement them.
With our Brothers, the Patriarchs of the Holy City and all the Heads of the Churches of Jerusalem we declare: It is enough with the bloodshed; it is enough with the fight! Shut the gates of death, of hatred and terror. Stop the shedding of blood that call for other bloodshed. The blood of all victims cries before God and before every human conscience. Restitute the occupied land to the real owners, thus allowing the hearts to regain serenity and for every human being to regain the proper humanity, and for Palestinians and Israelis to regain in equality the proper dignity given by God!

Ai nostri carissimi Fratelli e Figli nel Signore !
Il profeta Osea dice: “Il Signore fa un processo agli abitanti del paese. Non c’è né sincerità né amore, né conoscenza di Dio in questo popolo, ma ovunque spergiuri, menzogne, omicidi e latrocini, adulteri, violenze e sangue che provoca sangue. Ecco perché il paese è in lutto e chiunque vi abita deperisce” (Osea 4, 1-3). Queste parole applicano, purtroppo, almeno parzialmente, ai nostri giorni. E tutti noi portiamo la responsabilità di purificare il nostro tempo e di tornare alla rettitudine, alla giustizia e al bene.
Fratelli e Sorelle: Siamo vicini a voi. Con voi, viviamo la tempesta che si e scaturita in questi giorni. Con l’aiuto di Dio, questa crisi passera. Siamo con voi, in questi tempi difficili. Vi diciamo: Armatevi colla pazienza e colla fede. Col Salmista diciamo: “A torto mi perseguitano i potenti, ma il mio cuore teme la tua parola”(Salmo 118,161), e ancora: “Deh, mira la mia miseria e liberami, poiché non ho abbonando la tua legge. Difendi la mia causa e riscattami, dammi vita secondo la tua promessa” (118, 153-154).
Il nostro destino è di nascere sotto l’occupazione e di essere costantemente esposti alla morte. Ogni persona umana ha il diritto e il dovere di fare tutto il suo possibile per ottenere la propria libertà. La comunità internazionale deve finalmente sentire e capire che il Palestinese e un essere umano, come tutti gli altri. Come ogni essere umano, ha il diritto di riconquistare la propria dignità e libertà nella propria terra .
Uccidere e un male . Ogni violenza e un male. Ogni guerra sfigura il Volto di Dio, e perciò e un male . L’omicida e pure colui che spinge all’omicidio. E colui che apre le porte della morte e ci fa entrare le persone. Nella nostra Terra Santa, l’elemento che apre le porte della morte e l’occupazione militare. Diciamo dunque: basta la sofferenza del popolo palestinese fino ad oggi. E ora di porre fine alla sua tragedia.
Al popolo israeliano diciamo: Voi meritate ugualmente la sicurezza e la pace. Vi auguriamo sicurezza e pace. In ognuna ed ognuna di voi, vediamo la dignità che viene di quella di Dio e che e un dono ad ogni persona umana, sia palestinese che ebrea. La chiave della morte o della pace si trova nelle vostre mani e in quelle del governo che vi siete eletto. E lui che può aprire o chiudere le porte della morte. E lui che vi potrebbe dare la pace o privarvene. Colui che oggi combattono gli uni e gli altri e vengono buttati nell’abisso della morte hanno il diritto di vivere e di godersi la sicurezza. Perciò, dipende dal vostro governo di porre fine all’occupazione che pesa sui Palestinesi, da decine di anni a questa parte, privandoli della loro dignità e libertà. Le Nazioni Unite hanno formulato delle regolazioni che sono la base della pace. Basterebbe applicarle.
Coi nostri Confratelli, i Patriarchi della Città Santa e di tutti gli altri Capi di Chiese a Gerusalemme, diciamo: Basta col sangue, basta con le lotte! Chiudete le porte della morte, dell’odio e del terrore. Smettetela coll’effusione del sangue che chiama un altra effusione di sangue. Il sangue di tutte le vittime grida davanti a Dio e davanti ad ogni coscienza umana. Restituite la terra occupata ai veri proprietari, permettendo cosi ai cuori di ritrovare la serenità, ed ad ogni essere umano di ritrovare la propria umanità, e, al Palestinese come all’israeliano, di ritrovare nell’uguaglianza la propria dignità data da Dio!
